The College Station Lady Cougar soccer team defeated No. 1-ranked Magnolia 2-0 Thursday night at Cougar Field.
The win improves the Cougars district recored to 11-2 and 16-4-2 overall.
With 5 minutes left in the first half, Kelsey Slater received the ball out wide and slid a nice pass behind the Magnolia backline to Shaley Lewis. Lewis beat a defender before firing a shot that went off the far post and back into the goal. The Cougs led 1-0 at the half.
At the 27:03 mark of the second half, Kylie McRaven patiently played a ball to Adi Palacios six yards out. Palacios’ shot was saved by the Bulldog goalie, but Kalan Breedlove got on the rebound and chipped the goalie to give the Cougs a 2-0 lead.
The Cougar backline of Reagan Bethke, Adriana Wagner, and Lauren Hanik held the powerful Bulldog attack at bay.
The Cougs got an outstanding game in goal from sophomore MacKenzie Martin.
The Cougs will finish the regular season Friday at home against Katy Paetow. The JV will play at 5 p.m. and the varsity at 7.

The College Station Lady Cougar soccer team defeated the Brenham Cubettes Tuesday night in Brenham 5-0.
The Cougs opened the scoring early in the game when Shaley Lewis beat a defender down the left side before sending a nice pass that found Kylie McRaven alone 6 yards from goal. McRaven beat the goalie to give the Cougs a 1-0 lead.
Adi Palacios put the Cougs up by two when her shot made it just inside the left post, while Adriana Wagner had the assist.
The Cougs struck early in the second half when Lewis was brought down inside the penalty box for a PK. Lauren Hanik scored the PK to make the score 3-0.
Hanik picked up her second goal of the game when she scored with just over four minutes left, with an assist from Tania Aquino.
Cam Del Rio scored off of a rebound to end the scoring on the night.
The JV defeated the Cubs 5-0 to improve to 9-1 in district play. Cougars goals were scored by Cassie Watt, Jillian Burns, Ashlyn Turner, Logan Auckland, and Taylor Jennings.
