The College Station Lady Cougar JV defeated the Port Neches-Groves Indians 3-1 in the first game of the Waller JV Classic.
About halfway through the first half, Kylie McRaven played the ball across the penalty box to Reese Maxwell who laid it off to Camila Del Rio. Del Rio was able to get a shot off past the Indian goalkeeper and score the first goal of the game.
In the second half, a PNG defender fouled Shaley Lewis inside the penalty box, resulting in a penalty kick for the Lady Cougs. McRaven took the penalty kick and buried the ball in the top corner, making it 2-0.
PNG answered minutes later when one of their attackers managed to get past the Cougar defense and get a shot off to score PNG’s only goal.
The Cougar’s third goal was scored by Maddie Jones on a ball sent across the face of the goal by Kelsey Slater.
The Lady Cougar JV will face Magnolia West on Saturday at 9 a.m. for their second match-up in the Waller Classic, followed by the final game against Brazosport.
