Iola’s Nevill twins sign with TVCC

Iola volleyball players Taylor and Tatum Nevill signed with Trinity Valley Community College Saturday.

Both were named to the Class 2A all-state team selected by the Texas Girls Coaches Association. They were also on the TGCA’s academic all-state team.

Tatum was voted in as a second-team Texas Sports Writers Association all-state middle blocker for the Lady Bulldogs her senior season. Taylor was an honorable mention middle blocker on that team.

Both were freshmen members of Iola’s Class 2A state championship team, which posted a record of 43-1 in 2016. Iola was a state finalist in 2017, when Tatum was named to the all-state tournament team. Iola lost in the Region III-2A championship match in 2019, falling 18-16 to district rival Leon in the fifth set.

The Nevill twins have a legacy at TVCC, which is located in Athens, TX. Their father, Scott, played basketball for coaching legend Leon “Red” Spencer from 1984-86. Scott still holds the school record for career free throw percentage (86.3), having hit 151-of-175.

The 2019 TVCC Lady Cardinals posted a 24-6 record and played in the Region XIV tournament.
