LONGVIEW – State champion Jonesboro locked up both superlative honors with the release of the Blue Bell/Texas Sports Writers Association Class A All-State Softball Team on Thursday.

Catcher Emily Turner was named Player of the Year, and James Turner was selected as Coach of the Year.

Voting was conducted by TSWA members based on nominations from coaches and media members from around the state.

Emily Turner led Jonesboro in batting average (.556), on base percentage (.607), slugging percentage (.919), hits, RBI (35), runs (53), singles, doubles and triples, and she struck out just once all season. Behind the plate, she threw out three attempting to steal and picked off six runners.

James Turner led Jonesboro to a 19-10-1 record and a 9-8 win over Brookeland in the Class A state championship game.
