Tomball’s Sampson, Arrambide share player of year honors

BRYAN  – Tomball teammates C.J. Sampson and Cade Arrambide shared player of the year honors on the Blue Bell/Texas Sports Writers Association’s Class 6A all-state baseball team.

Sampson was 14-0 with a 0.75 earned run average. The sophomore right-hander struck out 115 in 93 2/3 innings. Arrambide batted .430 with 12 home runs and 35 runs batted in. The LSU signee was the Texas Gatorade player of the year. Sampson and Arrambide led Tomball to a 41-3 record and the state championship, which capped a 30-game winning streak.

Tomball’s Doug Rush was the coach of the year, leading the Cougars to their second state title. The other came in 2013 in Class 4A.
